Round Trip Flights
Perhaps you have experienced the issue with buying a ticket for round trip flights and then finding there is an easier way to reach your destination. However, the issue is that when you try to use the return half of your ticket you need to pay a change fee and any difference in the cost. A nonsequential use of ticket segments is listed in the airline tariff rules which requires that airline travelers on round trip flights have to use all portions of their tickets otherwise they will run the risk of getting the next leg of their flight canceled. Although many prefer to pay for round trip flights since they are cheaper than the costs of a one way flight.
Another option could be to find the cheapest available ticket for round trip flights to your destination and then just throw away the return part of the ticket if you don’t plan on returning. This way you can pay a cheaper price for a one way flight by paying for a round trip flight. This is also a popular practice for commuters to use in they want to save money on back to back flights by paying for two round trip flights instead of two one way flights.
Although by choosing this open you are taking a big risk. If you use your tickets in this manner there is the chance that the airline can cancel your return or ask for more money for the return leg of your trip. The airlines can do this for round trip flights if you don’t show up for any portion of the trip whether it is the first leg or any leg of the trip. But if you just don’t use the return portion of a ticket for round trip flights then there is nothing the airline can do. Although if you choose to go with the more expensive one way flight option then you will have more flexibility in your flight options than with a round trip flight. The option is entirely up to the individuals and what they feel comfortable doing to meet their travel needs.
