Business Class Flight
Business class flight is a high class in airline travel offered by some commercial airlines. Business class flight is typically higher than economy but not as high as first class. On most airlines business class flight will come with a lavatory reserved for business class individuals only. In addition, newly enforced security regulations on many airlines have prevented first and economy class passengers from even going into the business class section of the aircraft cabin. Many airlines today are increasing the quality, service and comfort of their business class. There are also variations on business class since many airlines will rename their classes. On Northwest Airlines and KLM flights it is called World Business Class while British Airways calls their business class Club World. Business class flight was first offered in 1979 by Qantas Aviation. Then EuroClass was offered in 1981 by Scandinavian Airlines which provided a separate cabin, check in counters and lounges for business class passengers. Today business class flight can be different depending on which airline you are flying with. On many small to medium sized airlines there isn’t much difference between business and economy class, sometimes just a curtain that separates the two sections. The larger airlines may offer business class flights that have wider seat and more leg room.
Within North American many domestic flights do not offer a business class aside from a few flights that are transcontinental from New York to the west coast. In North America the most premium service on an airline is first class. On the other hand, most flights in Europe do not have a first class option and rather business class is their equivalent. For first class in North American flights there is often a separate cabin with wider seats and better service.
On many short to medium flight routes the business class section is starting to be done away with. Many of these sections are being replaced by full fare economy and discount economy seat. This means that most of the seats are the same no matter which tickets your purchase. Rather the difference is on the flexibility of the ticket and the quality of the food and beverage service. Business class has been entirely removed from most shorter flight route in exchange for just one type of service on the entire plane.
