Flight Attendant
As any competent flight attendant knows, it is not exactly correct to use terms such as “steward” or “stewardess” any longer. But a good flight attendant will take it in stride and gently correct persons without getting upset. After all, a large part of the job o the flight attendant relates to customer care and treating clients with respect, even if they are not particularly worthy of it. If you think that you want to work with the public and you also like to travel, being a flight attendant may be right for you. This is not a job one walks into without training. As such, you will be required to attend an accredited flight attendant school before you can embark on your flight attendant career. There you will learn the history of the profession, including such gems as where and when the titles of “air stewardess”, “airline stewardess” were first used. You will also be introduced to the classic stewardess costume as well as getting a handle on the flight attendant uniforms of today. In the midst of this fun history, you will be taught serious lessons about maintaining a proper inventory of in-flight supplies, how to handle difficult passengers, the importance of safety regulations, and generally how to handle just about any potential situation.
Upon graduation, you will probably be able to compare several flight attendant jobs with different airlines. Pick your place of work well. Flight attendants, like any profession, are partially judged on how long they are able to maintain a working relationship with each employer. If you pick well the first time, chances are you will remain with the same airline for an extended period.
While a serious profession, flight attendants do have light moments as well. Ever seen flight attendants in Halloween costumes? It happens. You may hear old jokes about stewardesses and stockings that bring out laughter from attendants. You may even hear some lampooning the old stereotype of the sexy flight attendant, or maybe even claiming to be the epitome of it. To be a successful flight attendant, you need a steady hand on your emotions, the ability to deal with difficult people, and to remain calm in an emergency – all the while exhibiting a professional persona tinged with a sense of humor. If you think this type of work is right for you, then contact a flight attendant school in your area. Soon, you may have your dream job.
