Birds In Flight
Birds in Flight is a collection of photos from photographer Russ Hansen that showcases the actions of birds in mid flight. These actions are captured with the help of a high-speed shutter and a good eye. You can find some of Russ Hansen’s birds in flight photos on the website, www.BirdsInFlight.com. If you are on a web quest on bird flight, Russ Hansen’s website is your first stop. The beautiful thing about Hansen’s Birds In Flight works is that they do not bother to capture the physics of birds in flight or the mechanics of birds in flight; in actuality the photographer only strived to capture the beauty of the bird in mid flight, doing what they would be doing had the photographer never decided to take the picture in the first place. So many of the Birds in Flight pieces are so fine, they look as if they should be made of black porcelain. The photographer has captured such poses as hummingbirds drinking nectar in mid flight, and birds greeting each other in the air, not a F14 hitting a bird in mid flight as so many have suggested.
Birds In Flight as a piece of artwork is truly a thing of beauty, and Russ Hansen would have loved to see its success. Unfortunately, the Texas photographer died in 2002, but his memory lives on through his photographs and his beautiful work, Birds in Flight. He was a specialist when it came to what he did; he took photographs of birds at close range which qualifies as three feet or less of a distance away from the subject. They used goodies to get the birds close enough to photograph, luring them in with nuts, seeds, and such--things, that would draw the birds close enough to be photographed at close range.
